Deputy PM Binh cum Chairman of the National Civil Aviation Security Committee made the statement at the committee’s conference held in Hanoi on January 9 to review its operations in 2018 and outline plans for 2019.
The government official said that the air transport market continued to grow steadily in 2018 with approximately 104 million passengers carried, up 10.4%, and 1.5 million tonnes of goods, an increase of 7.7% compared to the previous year.
The Vietnam’s aviation market now sees the participation of 68 airlines from 25 countries and territories and four Vietnamese airlines.
The high growth rate of Vietnam’s aviation industry in addition to enhanced service quality and no aircraft accidents for 22 consecutive years are highly appreciated by countries in the region and the world, the Deputy PM noted.
The senior official said that ensured aviation safety and security has contributed to maintaining the growth pace of the domestic air transportation market.
The Deputy PM also noted some shortcomings of the aviation sector in the past year, including the occurrence of some threats to aviation security, and inadequate infrastructure and equipment for ensuring aviation safety and security, among others.
Deputy PM Binh asked the National Civil Aviation Security Committee to continue to effectively implement set targets to ensure maximum aviation security, contributing to socio-economic development and political stability.
The committee was also requested to update new legal documents and regulations on aviation security in accordance with latest international regulations, while applying new technology in aviation security management.
